Princeton University Athletics

When it comes to college athletics, Princeton is definitely one of the top schools in the nation. With over 30 varsity teams and nearly 1,000 student-athletes, there is no shortage of sports opportunities at this Ivy League school.

What varsity sports are the most popular at Princeton? According to a recent survey of students, the top five most popular sports are:

  • Football
  • Basketball
  • Track and Field
  • Soccer
  • Tennis

Not surprisingly, football is by far the most popular sport at Princeton. The Tigers have a rich tradition of success on the gridiron, winning 22 Ivy League championships since they began competing in the league in 1956. Basketball is also very popular at Princeton, with the men's team having won 13 Ivy League titles and the women's team winning 11.

Track and field, soccer, and tennis are also all very popular sports at Princeton. The Tigers have had a lot of success in each of these sports over the years, winning multiple Ivy League championships in each one.

Basketball

Princeton has a rich basketball history. The university has produced some of the best players in the game.

The Princeton Tigers have a long and storied history in college basketball. The team has won 27 Ivy League championships. They have also made 21 NCAA tournament appearances. The Tigers have produced many great players, including Hall of Famers Bill Bradley and earl Monroe.

The town of Princeton is also home to the Princeton Day School Panthers. The Panthers are one of the top high school teams in the state of New Jersey. They have won numerous state championships. The Panthers have also produced several Division I players.

Basketball is a big part of the Princeton community. The town has a rich history in the sport. There are many great players who have come from the area.

There are no basketball scholarships provided.

Football

The Princeton Tigers are a college football team that competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision. They are members of the Ivy League, and they play their home games at Princeton Stadium. The Tigers have a long and storied history, and they have been one of the most successful teams in the Ivy League in recent years.

In 2017, the Princeton Tigers had a record of 9-1, and they won the Ivy League championship. This was the third time in four years that the Tigers had won the Ivy League title. The Tigers have also been to the NCAA Division I Football Championship game three times in the last four years, but they have yet to win the national title.

The Princeton Tigers are coached by Bob Surace, who is entering his tenth season as the head coach of the team. Coach Surace has led the Tigers to a lot of success, and he has been named the Ivy League Coach of the Year three times.

Lacrosse at Princeton

The school has had a men's lacrosse team since 1876, making it one of the oldest programs in the country. In recent years, the team has seen success at the national level, reaching the NCAA Division I tournament semi-finals in 2016.

With such a long history and tradition of excellence, it's no surprise that lacrosse is a popular sport on campus. Students enjoy watching the games and cheering on the team, and many even participate in intramural and club lacrosse leagues.

If you're interested in trying out lacrosse, there are several ways to get involved. The Princeton Men's Lacrosse Club welcomes all students, regardless of experience level. They offer skills clinics, social events, and opportunities to play in tournaments and exhibition games.

The Princeton Women's Lacrosse Club is another great option for female students. The team competes in the intercollegiate Women's Collegiate Lacrosse League (WCLL), and also participates in tournaments and exhibition games throughout the year.

Golf at Princeton

The Princeton men's golf team is a historic and winning team, with 12 national championships and 26 Ivy League championships under their belt. Seven members of the team have won the NCAA Individual Championship, which cements the program's place among the nation's elite.

The quick-moving ladies on the 1991 varsity golf squad made their mark by winning the 1995 Northeast championships. The team has continued to compete at a high level, making regular appearances in the NCAA tournament.

Golf is an important part of the Princeton athletics tradition, and both the men's and women's teams are poised for continued success in the years to come.

Athletic Scholarships

Princeton College does not provide athletic scholarships,  but there are many other ways to get funding for your education.  Princeton offers need-based financial aid, which is awarded based on your family's income and assets.  You can also apply for merit-based scholarships, which are awarded based on your academic achievement or other talents. 

If you're interested in playing sports at Princeton, you'll need to try out for the team.  There are no guarantees of making the team, but if you do, you'll be eligible for an athletic grant.  Athletic grants are awarded based on your ability to contribute to the team.  They are not need-based, so you don't have to worry about your family's income or assets. 

Princeton also offers a variety of other scholarships, including ones for students with specific interests or talents. For example, there are scholarships for students who are interested in music, art, or theatre.  There are also scholarships for students from certain backgrounds, such as first-generation college students or students from low-income families.
